Live Auction Highlight – 1952 ½ Ton Chevrolet Panel Truck

Every Thursday on our social media platforms, we highlight a Live Auction from the automotive auction website BringATrailer.com.   At the end of the month we choose one of the completed auctions to break down and discuss.  This month we are going to focus on the auction of a 1952 ½ ton Chevrolet Panel Truck.

This truck caught our eye due its originality.  Nowadays most trucks have been upgraded with modern amenities such as disc brakes, air conditioning and custom suspensions.  We would classify this truck as an older “light restoration”.  It looks like an older repaint both inside and out with some new upholstery.  The core of the truck has been left as original.  The stock 92hp 216 cid inline-six, 3-speed manual transmission is still in place, as well as the foot mounted starter.  The truck is drivable with its stock brake system and suspension.

Panel trucks are pretty rare, especially in this type of condition.  They were originally used by businesses for contracting or deliveries so they were rarely babied.  A secondary use for these trucks was a traveling billboard for your business or service.  We do appreciate the fact the seller used vinyl, not painted logos for ease of removal.  How cool would it be to drive up to a jobsite or local parade in this panel truck with your company logo?  We have a feeling the proud new owner will be using his new panel truck for this purpose.

Hagerty Insurance offers a free valuation tool on their website so we looked up this truck to see how it compared.  We would classify this truck as a #3 (Good) condition. “Good” vehicles could possess some, but not all of the issues of a “Fair” (#4) vehicle, but they will be balanced by other factors such as a fresh paint job or a new, correct interior where applicable. #3 vehicles drive and run well, but might have some incorrect parts. These vehicles are not used for daily transportation but are ready for a long tour without excuses, and the casual passerby will not find any visual flaws.

Hagerty Estimate: $18,600

BROTHERS Pre-Auction Estimate: $27,000
